THE ACADEMY

The Academy is an independent Toronto presenter for emerging hip hop, R&B/soul, and hybrids of these genres. Our focus is based on new music discovery and development, and presenting this talent to music fans. The Academy has introduced Toronto - through Canadian debut concerts - to world-renowned artists including John Legend, Post Malone, Little Simz, Aloe Blacc, The Foreign Exchange, DRAM, Lion Babe, and Jesse Boykins III, while hosting concert debuts for Toronto artists including TOBi, Emanuel, TRP.P, Ebhoni aka Sadboi, OBUXUM, and many more via The Hustle bi-monthly event series.

Funky Facilitators present Lift Me Up, a house dance battle that will feature up to 32 dancers battling for a prize of $500. If you would like to attend or battle, please tap the respective RSVP at the link below. It’s free to battle and free to watch. All ages welcome.

DAY 2: Live R&B and Soulful Performances + AIRMOVES Silent Disco Soundclash

Saturday, September 2 | 6-11pm

The Academy presents a music playground, offering two simultaneous events. On the main stage we will have performances by 4 Toronto based soulful music acts, while under and around the pavilion we’ll host a Silent Disco Soundclash powered by AIRMOVES featuring some of Toronto’s best deejays. Please RSVP so we know you’ll be joining us and we can gauge numbers. All ages welcome.

AIRMOVES Silent Disco Soundclash (8-11pm)

As far as we know, the first Soundclash silent disco style in Toronto. Our headsets have 3-channels so the audience can simultaneously select to listen to all 3 crews, moving through the channels at your own listening pleasure. Voting will happen live through your cell phone. The crowd choosing their favourite crew. All you need to do is RSVP to the Saturday link listed above and arrive early as headsets are limited to the first 200 attendees. Please bring your government ID (drivers license or health card) to swap for a headset. Time: 8-11pm (overall park programing begins at 6pm).

DAY 3: Gumbo Daytime Lime

SummerSeries in Trillium Park

A free family friendly hang, with music, dance, games, and food. Gumbo is a celebration of multicultural roots via West Africa and the West Indies. It is an art-infused dance party celebrating African and Caribbean culture through music, dance, video projections, photography and space design. Musically centered in Afrobeats, Gumbo also draws from Soca to Dancehall/Reggae and from Amapiano to Afrohouse and New Orleans Bounce. The Gumbo discotek connects the Afro-diaspora through music.
